Harrysong dumps Five Star Music...starts own music label

Biggest shock of the month as Harrysong dumps Five Star Music to start his own music label.

There is about to be another artist/label drama/fight in the Nigerian entertainment industry. And this time, it's between Raggae Blues singer Harrysong and his Five Star Music label.

Late yesterday evening, Harrysong shared the poster on the left on his IG page, he didn't say what it was about but when Da-Playpoint went digging, we found out it was his own music label. Thing is, Harrysong still has a 2-year contract with Five Star Music and we hear Five Star Music will be coming for him...

We don't have all the details but according to someone in the know, Harrysong was unhappy with his contract and wanted out. Without informing Five Star, he started his own label.

A source close to the music label said he believes that the music label will take it up with Harrysong as they paid a lot of money to break his contract with his former music label, Kevin Luciano's Question Mark Records before they could even sign him and they have spent a lot of money on him and he still has contractual agreements with them until 2018.

Harrysong doesn't seem to care as he's already launched his own label.

I thank you for treating me like a lady and for always being there for me. I thank you for providing for our family and for putting us first at all times. It is not easy being married to a musician as people only see the glamorous side of this life but refuse to realize that you are a human being first with feelings and needs just as any one else. 11years together is not a joke. I see the non-glamorous side of you and still love you as you come.I love you! May God continue to bless and protect us in Jesus Name!⚘

This will make you feel old: Benita Okojie is getting married

In the late 90’s, Benita Okojie emerged on the music scene, rosy cheeked and full of innocence as she crooned ‘Osamudiamen….’ She was only 12 and it seemed she was never going to grow up.

Well, ‘little Benita’ is not so little anymore. She reappeared in the media couple of years ago looking all grown up, talking about graduating from university and getting married in the future.

That future has arrived. Few hours ago, it was reported that she was getting married to a long-term boyfriend later this month.
Married. Benita Okojie is getting married. At the appropriate age of 27, it shouldn’t raise any eyebrows.
But for many of us that saw her in her childhood, it certainly feels just like yesterday. And it makes us feel very old.
Congratulations Benita!

Comedian Seyi Law declares his interest to run for president in 2019

The comedian took to his Instagram and twitter page to declare his interest in running for president come 2019. According to him, it's time we vote for shift and change the status quo. Why aim low when you can aim high? I believe that the status quo must change for Nigeria to regain its place as a force to reckon with. The energy and knowledge of the Nigerian Youth must be put to positive use.

It is time we acknowledged the ingenuity of our vibrant men and women to ensure proper representation at the different levels of governance and not mere reduction to PAs and SAs.
We must ensure we retain our best brains in the country and adequately make provision to reform our educational institutions, healthcare system and industries. Our ways of learning must change to meet required standard.

I am ALETILE OLUWASEYITAN LAWRENCE aka SEYILAW and I am running for the highest office in the land in 2019.

Yoruba actress, Kudirat Ajimat and Ansa Bassey Kpokpogri passes away

The two Nollywood practitioners have been reported dead in the space of 24 hours.
First was the news of Nollywood film-maker and Director, Ansa Bassey Kpokpogri, a Calabar-born mother of one who passed away after complaining of pains from peptic ulcer.

Announcing her death, film-maker Uduak Isong Oguamanam, younger sister of Emem Isong, took to her Facebook to write a glowing tribute that reads, ‘Grief. It makes you remember things. Minute details, like the sound of their feet, the colour of their hair and the sweet smell of their body spray. It makes you regret. The holidays you never took, the movies you never watched together, the visits you kept planning to but never made. It reminds you of your own mortality. You wonder if there’s a row call and what your number is on the list. Death doesn’t warn you. One moment you’re laughing with a loved one, your head thrown back, with wanton abandon, the next your eyes are bloodshot from weeping for a loss so deep no one can understand. I’ll never understand, never come to terms with your death. You were many things to me; Friend. Sister. Business partner. Supporter. Colleague. My life was better because you were in it. Sleep well my beautiful, adorable, amazing Ansa. Till we meet again to part no more’.

Not long after, news of the death of Yoruba actress, Kudirat Ajimat was announced by TAMPAN in a statement that reads, ‘It saddens our association Theatre Arts and Movie Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), Ogun State Chapter, to announce the untimely death of our beloved sister/colleague Kudirat Ajimat popularly known and called Ajimat. The news of her death got to us this morning as a shocker but we don’t have power to stop God from doing what is right in HIS sight. We will seriously miss you and your friendly lifestyle. RIP.’

Patoranking album hits number 4 on billboard charts

Just 11 days after the release of Patoranking’s album “God Over  Everything”, the singer’s debut has reached number 4 on the Billboard charts. He held a press conference this past week to discuss his success and his reason for delaying the release of the album.

 He said:
“One of the reasons why the album was delayed was: we could have dropped an album after ‘Girlie Oh’, but I just felt that I needed the acquaintance, that I wasn’t acquainted to the people. I felt that I wasn’t felt all over the country. Down South, down North, they didn’t know me. I needed to get closer to the people, and that was why I had to delay the album for a while, and we kept up dropping singles.”
“I want a four year old to be able to sing Patoranking’s music. At the end of the day, I want to make music, irrespective of the genre, irrespective of how it is being done. I just want to get it done, and get it delivered. I want to see a 2-year kid singing my song. On the track 1 of the song I went really hard, just to let people understand that my name is Patoranking, and dance hall is all I do. You have some pidgin tracks as well for my people in Ajegunle. I try to carry everybody along.”
“I’m somebody that my music depicts my lifestyle, everything that has to be about my upbringing and how I rose to fame. Patoranking generally, the life and times of Patoranking. I got to figure out that a lot of people want to be famous, a lot of people want to to be known for different things, for wearing the best designers. Others for having a lot of properties. But you know not everybody knows that despite everything you have, it’s still vanity, it’s still God over everything”.
“The album is about love, about God, and it’s about where I come from, and where I’m headed to. In as much as you are trying to dance, just always remember that it is still God over everything. No matter what you possess, no matter what you do in life, it should be a thought that has to go with your day to day activity. No matter the amount of money I have on earth, it is still God. That’s why we chose the title “God Over Everything.””

Made 9 reveals why no one knows about his love life

Veteran rap artiste, Mode 9, is regarded as the godfather of rap music in Nigeria in some quarters and while a lot is known about the talented rapper’s body of work, little or nothing is known about his love life. In fact, if you ask his core fans if the rap artiste is married or not, no one can answer with confidence.

In a chat with DA-Playpoint Entertaiment, the word smith once again evaded questions that border on his private life but this time, he gave reasons why he never talks about his personal life.

“I am not going to answer personal questions and if you notice my modus operand, I guard my personal life with my life. I tell my family members to shy away from the press. My interviews are about my works; I drop an album and I want you to buy it. I don’t want people to know about my personal life, because I am an artiste and not a   celebrity. I don’t do music to be famous. Everybody has a reason behind their action and I do music because I am good at it.

“Why do I need to be famous? It is a lie that the person in my life may feel bad that I don’t talk about her during interviews. If your wife works in a bank and you are an artiste, you don’t go to her bank and sit down. Likewise an entertainer; your spouse may come for a few shows but not every one of them because she knows you would not give her all your attention. Some people like to put their family in the limelight like the Kardashians but others don’t because they are private people and the fans need to respect that fact. I follow rappers like KRS One in America and I have never woken up one day to find out who his wife is. I don’t care about any other thing but his music because I am a fan of his music. There are some people that are just too nosy and want to know everything about a person. You cannot know everything about me. I am from a different era, and in my era, we only follow the music and ignore every other thing,” Mode 9 said.

"WizKid Award Was A Mistake" Says MTV EMA

It came as a rude shock to Nigerians when it was announced that ace artiste, Ayo ‘Wizkid’ Balogun was “incorrectly” awarded the Best African Act award at the recently concluded MTV European Music Awards held in Rotterdam, Netherlands, on November 6, 2016.

The award which was initially given to Wiz kid was said to have been taken from him and given to his Tanzanian counterpart, Alikiba.

It was reported that the MTV EMA posted a statement on its website which named Alikiba, as the rightful recipient of the award.

The statement read, “MTV congratulates Alikiba, who has won Best African Act at the 2016 MTV EMAs. The news was revealed 10 November, after the incorrect results were posted late Sunday night (6 November) due to an error. Six Worldwide Act winners, including Wizkid, were selected by an international committee of MTV music executives to recognise current artists who are rising to have a wider geographic appeal beyond their local regions. The winners were chosen based on a range of criteria including international MTV video play, radio airplay, streams, and sales across multiple territories and regions. The winner of Best African Act was selected by fans via votes on MTVEMA.com. Both Wizkid and Alikiba are great artistes and deserving winners at the MTV EMAs and we congratulate them wholeheartedly on their achievements. We apologise for any confusion but we are pleased to recognise the achievements of both artists on this global platform.”

Efforts made by Saturday Beats to confirm the development on the website did not yield any result.
Reacting to this development, Wizkid’s manager, Sunday Are, told Saturday Beats via a telephone conversation that there was something fishy going on.

“They had announced him as the winner and if he was at the award ceremony and the award had been given to him in person, would they come back to say that the award isn’t for him anymore? I think there is something fishy going on about this development. If Wizkid was present to receive the award, would they have said on stage that it was an error? I really think there is something suspicious going on. The MTV EMA is not a small award, it is a very prestigious one and they cannot afford to make such a mistake because it is too costly. Personally, I think there is more to this and something suspicious is going on,” he said.
